How many of its main first-level divisions each country has (states, provinces, regions, counties…), from Wikipedia's table of administrative divisions. Extra special units are left out: Canada counts its 10 provinces, not the 3 territories; Nigeria its 36 states, not the capital territory. Slovenia (212 municipalities) is too many to include. Countries without divisions, or whose divisions overlap (Belgium), aren't included either. There are 2883 ways to hit exactly 100 on this board, and 24 of them use only 2 darts. Of 13,099 players so far, 1% hit a bullseye and 26% went bust; the average score was 58.

Reasoning & candidate comparison Contains the answer
Build an exact checkout from the actual board
- Use the recorded board for “Countries by number of states or provinces”, where values are divisions. The target is 100, so work backwards from the remainder instead of selecting famous or high-valued entries alone.
- Choose Russia, worth 89: 100 − 89 = 11 remaining.
- Choose Barbados, worth 11: 11 − 11 = 0 remaining.
- Checking every distinct-entry single and pair on the stored board finds 24 exact 2-dart checkouts and no exact checkout using fewer darts. The chosen sum is 89 + 11 = 100.
| Candidate / approach | Assessment | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Russia (89) + Barbados (11) | Exact checkout | The recorded values sum to 100 in 2 darts. |
| Russia (89) + Liechtenstein (11) | Equally short alternative | 89 + 11 = 100. This uses the same minimum number of distinct board entries; it is not scored lower in this calculation. |
| Russia (89) + Turkey (81) | Overshoots | 89 + 81 = 170, 70 above the target. This is an illustrative calculation, not a recorded player attempt. |
What this does and does not establish
- Calculations use the values stored for this puzzle, including the game’s rounding and scaling. They are not updated real-world statistics. Candidate combinations use distinct entries; the count here covers only the minimum-length combinations, not all longer ways to total 100.
