How to play Farflung
- Each day's game is an expedition of five prompts, such as "Pin a country with a Taco Bell restaurant today".
- Tap the map to place one pin on a country that fits, then drop it. You have 60 seconds per prompt (30 on the harder setting).
- Every correct country adds distance. The rarer it is, the further it takes you: Common 40 km, Uncommon 55, Rare 70, Elusive 85 and Farflung 100.
- Each prompt has at least one gem: a surprising answer with the top rarity, Farflung.
- A wrong country or a pin in the sea adds nothing. Territories count for the country they belong to (Greenland counts as Denmark).
- A new expedition opens at midnight in your local time, and everyone gets the same five prompts for that date.
Farflung tips
- Skip the first country that comes to mind — the obvious pick is almost always Common.
- Read the prompt's fine print: territories, overseas bases and historical cases often decide what counts.
- Small countries in Europe, the Caribbean and Central Asia are where most gems hide.
- You can use the same country on more than one prompt if it fits each one.
