Perceptle #105 answer & hints
Count
Friday Count: the dots drift and bounce for two and a half seconds. How many were there?
Hint 1 Tap to reveal
Perceptle always shows between 45 and 85 dots. Today's count is under 65.
Hint 2 Tap to reveal
It is between 58 and 68.

Count a reconstructed board in four spatial groups
- The worked diagram reconstructs the 2026-10-30 Count board at the instant it appears using the official game's layout algorithm. Split at x = 400 and y = 250 on its 800 × 500 coordinate system.
- Count the upper-left region (14) and upper-right (13) separately; the upper half contains 27. Then count lower-left (20) and lower-right (16), giving 36 in the lower half.
- Add the four groups: 14 + 13 + 20 + 16 = 63. Assign each dot by its centre, so a dot near a dividing line is counted once.
- Test a tempting shortcut: double the left-half count (34 × 2 = 68). The right half actually contains 29, so this shortcut is off by 5 dots because the layout is not evenly split.
| Candidate / approach | Assessment | Why |
|---|---|---|
| 63 | Exact grouped count | Four disjoint region counts sum to 63; no dot is shared between regions. |
| 68 | Rejected estimate | Doubling 34 assumes the other half also has 34; the actual other half has 29. |
| 64 | One-dot overcount | Would require an extra dot beyond the four complete disjoint groups. Recheck dots near x=400 or y=250 instead of rounding up. |
What this does and does not establish
- Friday dots move. This is the initial frozen layout, not a claim that dots stay in their starting quadrant throughout the timed display.
- A future change to the official layout algorithm requires revalidation.
