Perceptle #101 answer & hints
Count
Count: dots flash for two seconds. How many were there?
Hint 1 Tap to reveal
Perceptle always shows between 45 and 85 dots. Today's count is under 65.
Hint 2 Tap to reveal
It is between 57 and 67.

Count a reconstructed board in four spatial groups
- The worked diagram reconstructs the 2026-10-26 Count board at the instant it appears using the official game's layout algorithm. Split at x = 400 and y = 250 on its 800 × 500 coordinate system.
- Count the upper-left region (18) and upper-right (11) separately; the upper half contains 29. Then count lower-left (12) and lower-right (21), giving 33 in the lower half.
- Add the four groups: 18 + 11 + 12 + 21 = 62. Assign each dot by its centre, so a dot near a dividing line is counted once.
- Test a tempting shortcut: double the left-half count (30 × 2 = 60). The right half actually contains 32, so this shortcut is off by 2 dots because the layout is not evenly split.
| Candidate / approach | Assessment | Why |
|---|---|---|
| 62 | Exact grouped count | Four disjoint region counts sum to 62; no dot is shared between regions. |
| 60 | Rejected estimate | Doubling 30 assumes the other half also has 30; the actual other half has 32. |
| 63 | One-dot overcount | Would require an extra dot beyond the four complete disjoint groups. Recheck dots near x=400 or y=250 instead of rounding up. |
What this does and does not establish
- This is a study reconstruction, not a record of a human completing the timed game.
- A future change to the official layout algorithm requires revalidation.
