Perceptle #100 answer & hints
Count
Count: dots flash for two seconds. How many were there?
Hint 1 Tap to reveal
Perceptle always shows between 45 and 85 dots. Today's count is 65 or more.
Hint 2 Tap to reveal
It is between 78 and 85.

Count a reconstructed board in four spatial groups
- The worked diagram reconstructs the 2026-10-25 Count board at the instant it appears using the official game's layout algorithm. Split at x = 400 and y = 250 on its 800 × 500 coordinate system.
- Count the upper-left region (25) and upper-right (22) separately; the upper half contains 47. Then count lower-left (18) and lower-right (18), giving 36 in the lower half.
- Add the four groups: 25 + 22 + 18 + 18 = 83. Assign each dot by its centre, so a dot near a dividing line is counted once.
- Test a tempting shortcut: double the left-half count (43 × 2 = 86). The right half actually contains 40, so this shortcut is off by 3 dots because the layout is not evenly split.
| Candidate / approach | Assessment | Why |
|---|---|---|
| 83 | Exact grouped count | Four disjoint region counts sum to 83; no dot is shared between regions. |
| 86 | Rejected estimate | Doubling 43 assumes the other half also has 43; the actual other half has 40. |
| 84 | One-dot overcount | Would require an extra dot beyond the four complete disjoint groups. Recheck dots near x=400 or y=250 instead of rounding up. |
What this does and does not establish
- This is a study reconstruction, not a record of a human completing the timed game.
- A future change to the official layout algorithm requires revalidation.
